Description
The Ex-M C6e is a battery electric tracked spider crane converted for use in ATEX Zone 2 gas atmospheres. The base machine is the Hoeflon C6e, a 3000 kg mini crane with a hydraulic telescopic boom, hydraulically adjustable outriggers and radio remote control, built to work in confined and restricted access areas. Converted and certified to explosion proof ATEX Zone 2 (3G) by Ex-Machinery Explosion Proof Equipment B.V.
Lifting inside a live process area normally means isolating and purging a section of plant so that a standard crane can be brought in, or rigging by hand because no certified machine exists at that size. A converted spider crane works inside the zone as it stands. Because the base machine is battery electric, the hardest ignition source on a conventional crane, a diesel engine with its exhaust and hot turbocharger, is not present.
Why an Electric Spider Crane Suits a Hazardous Area
- No combustion engine. No exhaust surfaces, no hot turbo, no fuel system, and nothing added to the atmosphere the crane is standing in.
- Fits where a truck crane cannot. 770 mm transport width, through standard doorways, along walkways and onto mezzanines.
- Low ground loading. 0.79 kg/cm² on rubber tracks, so gratings, tank roofs and finished floors stay intact.
- Lifts more than its own weight. 3000 kg maximum capacity against a 2850 kg operating weight.
Base Machine Features
- Hydraulically extendable and adjustable outriggers, automatically folding, with an automatic levelling function
- Folding legs low to the ground as standard, which extend under obstacles
- Adjustable track width for narrow passages
- Retractable and extendable counterweight, removable to reduce crane weight by up to 600 kg
- Endless slewing and pick and carry up to 300 kg
- Winch included as standard, with a 4.3 m manual jib extension available
Typical Lifting Work
- Installing and removing pumps, valves and motors
- Assembling steel structures
- Hoisting precast concrete and building elements
- Installing glass and facade structures
- Exact positioning under load
- Assembly in narrow passageways and indoor spaces
- Work where the crane must enter via a lift or limited access
Applications
An ATEX mini crane is the practical answer wherever lifting has to happen inside a classified area and shutting that area down is not viable. Typical applications include:
- Refineries
- Petrochemical plants
- Chemical plants
- Tank farms and loading terminals
- Offshore platforms
- FPSOs and drilling rigs
- Shipyards and vessel holds
- Gas compressor stations
- Pharmaceutical facilities
- Paint and coating shops
- Fuel and solvent storage
- Power generation plants
- Battery and hydrogen production
- Waste and biogas plants
- Analyser houses
- Confined plant rooms
